DOUBLE L POTATO HARVESTER

THE GOLD STANDARD OF POTATO HARVESTING EQUIPMENT

Farming is evolving at a rapid pace. Within the lifetime of our parents or grandparents, potato harvesting has morphed from a mostly manual process to a large-scale operation largely handled by tractors and implements. Innovations like Double L's high-capacity potato harvesters have allowed farmers all over the world to harvest hundreds of thousands of acres more of potatoes than was possible just 75 years ago. With the help of well-timed belted chains, padded transitions, star-roller cleaning tables, and more, potatoes are harvested faster, cleaner, and with less bruise with each new model release.

Double L manufactures several harvester models — each tailored to the needs of you and your farm. Confucius once said “Don't use a cannon to kill a mosquito.” For some operations, a larger harvester might be more than what's needed. The 859 Potato Harvester is evidence that settling for a smaller harvester doesn't mean you have to compromise build quality or features.

Traffic laws in your state or country may restrict the width of the implements that can be towed on public roads. Smaller tractors may not have the horsepower required to pull a larger harvester. Whichever the special constraint may be, the 965 Potato Harvester exceeds expectations while working within the confines of your operation's circumstances.

For certain jobs, tough and reliable are the only necessary qualifiers for field equipment. The 953 Harvester was designed to get the job done without being overcomplicated by expensive bells and whistles.

The 973 Potato Harvester is the flagship of the Double L harvester line. Simplicity and sophistication meld nicely in its design. Years of honing every detail have enabled the 973 to outperform the competition in harvesting speed, bruise-free percentage, and cleaning capability.

RETURNFLOW

Reduce Bruise

REDUCE BRUISE

The best way to get the most out of your harvester is to operate it at capacity. Engage ReturnFlow at the start of the row, and let it fill your machine. When the harvester is full, potatoes flow smoothly through the machine. Bruise from product rollbacks and transitions is reduced.

Boost Harvester Efficiency

BOOST HARVESTER EFFICIENCY

Imagine how much faster you could dig a field if you never had to stop. ReturnFlow creates a 30-second window for smooth truck transitions. Just line your trucks up behind one another, and dig without any interruption.

Compensate For Conditions

COMPENSATE FOR CONDITIONS

Not every field is easy for trucks to drive through. Steep hills or deep sand can prove problematic for a truck and harvester trying to keep pace with one another. A tractor operator can engage ReturnFlow at the start of a row or at the bottom of a hill, dig at a comfortable speed, and allow trucks to avoid the risk of getting stuck in the field.

ESSENTIAL CONTROLS AND SENSORS

Joystick Controls

JOYSTICK CONTROLS

Do you remember going to the arcade as a kid? Wasn't it fun to control your favorite video game characters with just a few buttons and a joystick? Double L brings the simplicity and familiarity of those controls to its harvester line. All of the harvester's functions fit comfortably in the palm of your hand.

Shaft Monitors

SHAFT MONITORS

Have you ever had to dig out a clogged-up harvester? If you have, the time you've lost and the product you may have damaged while unclogging the machine likely crossed your mind. Shaft sensors on the secondary, rear cross, and side elevator could warn you of a problem before it becomes a disaster.

ISOBUS Communication

ISOBUS COMMUNICATION

Double L taps into the ISOBUS port of the tractor to accurately read PTO PRMs. With this data, the shaft sensors can quickly detect problems throughout your machine.

The ISOBUS port also provides 60- and 30-amp electrical connections to the harvester. Double L leverages these to power brighter lighting and a more sophisticated controller.

Camera System

CAMERA SYSTEM

Harvesters are big and a lot is going on all at once. See it all with cameras placed in your blind spots around the harvester. Day or night, your tractor operator can view live feeds from all of your cameras.

GALAXY CLEANING TABLE

Counter-Rotating Shafts

COUNTER-ROTATING SHAFTS

Vines, weeds, and corn trash are difficult for most cleaning solutions to sift out of your product. The counter-rotating shafts in the Galaxy Cleaning Table create a pinch point that traps and pulls out foreign material.

Hydraulic Speed Control

HYDRAULIC SPEED CONTROL

There are a variety of reasons why an operator may want to slow down or speed up the cleaning table on the harvester. Soil conditions, product volume, bruise-free requirements, better product separation are just a few. Rather than getting out the wrench and re-sprocketing the machine, just adjust the speed from the tractor cab. The control over the in-field cleaning of your product is in your hands.

Polyurethane Stars

POLYURETHANE STARS

Polyurethane stars have been field-tested for years in Double L's harvester line. They are superior to other industry solutions in many ways. Mud doesn't stick to polyurethane very well, therefore the cleaning table is less likely to clog in wet digging conditions. Polyurethane is tough but not abrasive. Expect the stars to hold up against foreign material while being gentle on your crop.

Customizable Configuration

CUSTOMIZABLE CONFIGURATION

No one understands your digging conditions or processor requirements as well as you do. With various options for counter-rotating shafts and star position and finger count, Double L puts you in control of the cleaning aggression and product handling of your cleaning table.

“NO BRUISE” PACKAGE

Pegs and Ears

PEGS AND EARS

When the harvester chains stop or before the harvester is filled to capacity, there is the possibility of product rollback. The pegs on belted chain reduce the distance a potato will roll before it's caught. The ears at the ends of belted chain kepp your product from rubbing and bumping against the side walls of the harvester.

C-Flex Belted Chain

C-FLEX BELTED CHAIN

Every bit of give incorporated into a steel machine makes a difference. C-Flex belted chain adds a C-shaped cushion to the top surface of each rod in the chain. As potatoes tumble through the harvester, they bump into that cushion instead of ordinary chain.

Padded Transitions

PADDED TRANSITIONS

Transitions are the most troublesome spots for bruise. Typically, they involve both a drop and a change in direction. Instead of colliding with bare metal when they transition between sections, potatoes roll into a backstop of foam and rubber.

VINE CHOPPER

Fight Disease

FIGHT DISEASE

Verticillium Wilt or “vert” is a destructive fungal infection that can be transmitted through green vines and weeds. Unless properly dealt with, vert can linger in the soil for up to seven years, causing product loss or quality problems.

Protect Field Equipment

PROTECT FIELD EQUIPMENT

Vines and weeds have a tendency to find their way into or around mechanical components. A large enough coil of vines can seize a truck driveline. Fixing the problem in the field is aggravating at best and dangerous at worst. Chop the vines before they become a hazard.

Engage Belts Separately

ENGAGE BELTS SEPARATELY

The harvester's belted chains, the fan drive, and vine chopper all run off of the PTO. If all of these were engaged simultaneously, vines could tangle up in the chopper before it could ramp up to full speed. Electromagnetic clutches allow the fan drive and vine chopper to be engaged before engaging the belted chains. When the belted chains are engaged, the electromagnetic clutches smoothly bring them up to speed.

Simplify Field Prep

SIMPLIFY FIELD PREP

Vines make a nasty mess. Once dry, they act like a stiff rope. In windy conditions, they tend to intertwine and snowball into tangles that tillage equipment can't break up. Double L's vine chopper pulverizes vines into small segments that will be much easier to disc into the soil.
